The Story

Ninja flicks are making a comeback and time is short to cash in. Hounded by his agent, a forlorn writer struggles to re-ignite his creative mojo, all but extinguished since the death of his muse, his one true love. Tapety-tap, the keyboard brings to life silent assassins creeping through lush, misty jungles in search of their prey. Masked shadows face each other in the ultimate showdown. Swords clash and … she appears, The Girl. Can the writer face his lost love to finish their story and write his career-saving ninja script?

Project Background

Mike P. Nelson was approached by the Markowitz Bro’s in 2012 about a feature script they were developing called “Our Fantasies Are Eating Us Alive!” Mike was fascinated by the genre-bending nature of the script – it has action, violence, love, drama and a lot of humor. The Markowitz Bro’s had sought Mike out after they had met with one of Mike’s frequent collaborators, Cinematographer Nick Junkersfeld and seeing “The Retirement of Joe Corduroy”. After about a year of collaboration on developing the feature project the team decided to start with a short and worked with Producer/Writer Brett Andres to writer a script that carries forward the themes, characters, style and humor of the feature script and “The Goodbye” was born. Brett Andres and the Markowitz brothers formed Don’t Mind If I Do Films, LLC and launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in Minnesota to enable the shooting of their short film which aims to entertain audiences by tackling the romantic dramedy genre in just 15 minutes. Working with great local Minnesota cast and crew, principal photography was completed over two weekends led by Director Mike P. Nelson and Cinematographer, Nick Junkersfeld. The team is now developing the feature script and other projects.
